ELECTRICIAN

M.W. Butler Electrical is looking for qualified residential and commercial Journeyman Electricians. Competitive compensation with benefits, local work and company vehicle. A valid driver's license, MVR, drug test and background check are required with all positions.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Duties may include, but not limited to the following:

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures. Ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes. May install or service street lights, intercom systems, or electrical control systems.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
  • Use a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
  • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
  • Work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
  • Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
  • Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.
  • Place conduit, pipes, or tubing, inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
  • Direct or train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
  • Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools.
  • Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors.
  • Assemble, install, test, or maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools.
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
  • Minimum education requirement of High School diploma or general education degree (GED) equivalent
  • 4 years of experience in Electrical Construction advanced training or any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of local codes and general industry standards.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Must be able to pass drug screen and background check
  • Must have a wide variety of appropriate hand tools
  • Self-starter with the ability to work as a team,as well as,independently in the field while giving guidance and instruction to the apprentice
  • Perform manual labor in an outdoor environment in various conditions. Physical requirements of the position to include, but not limited to: standing, lifting and carrying a min of 50lbs, crawling, climbing ladders, kneeling, bending, etc.)

ELECTRICIAN APPRENTICE

M.W. Butler Electrical is looking for qualified residential and commercial Electrical Apprentices. Competitive compensation with benefits, apprenticeship tuitionassistance and local work. A valid driver's license, MVR, drug test and background check are required with all positions.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Duties may include, but not limited to the following:

  • Help electricians by performing duties requiring less skill. Duties include using, supplying or holding materials or tools, and cleaning work area and equipment.
  • Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit, using measuring instruments and hand tools.
  • Trace outshort circuits in wiring, using test meter.
  • Strip insulation from wire ends, using wire stripping pliers, and attach wires to terminals for subsequent soldering.
  • Examine electrical units for loose connections and broken insulation and tighten connections,using hand tools.
  • Construct controllers and panels, using power drills, drill presses, taps, saws, and punches.
  • Drill holes and pull or push wiring through openings, using hand and power tools.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment and keep parts and supplies in order.
  • Transport tools, materials, equipment, and supplies to work site by hand, handtruck, or heavy, motorized truck.
  • Install copper-clad ground rods, using a manual post driver.
  • Thread conduit ends, connect couplings, and fabricate and secure conduit support brackets, using hand tools.
  • Disassemble defective electrical equipment, replace defective or worn parts, and reassemble equipment, using hand tools.
  • Erect electrical system components and barricades, and rig scaffolds, hoists, and shoring.
  • Perform semi-skilled and unskilled laboring duties related to the installation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Dig trenches or holes for installation of conduit or supports.
  • Maintain company vehicle and associated inventory in the vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
  • Minimum education requirement of High School diploma or (GED) equivalent
  • 1 year of experience in Electrical Construction preferred

GENERATOR TECHNICIAN/MECHANIC

M.W. Butler Electrical is looking for qualified Generator Technicians/Mechanics. Potential candidates should have experience in installation,repair and maintenance of most major brands of residential whole-house generators, electrical knowledge and a customer-first approach in communicating jobs and services. JOB DESCRIPTION:

Duties may include, but not limited to the following:

  • MAINTENANCE: Provide thorough inspection and preventative maintenance on standby generators (changing the oil, filters, spark plugs, battery, cabinetry cleaning, checking voltages, etc.)to prevent future failures.
  • SERVICE: Responsible for troubleshooting and diagnosing generator electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure unit is running properly.
  • INSTALLATION: Install new and replacement generators to include setting units in proper location, installing automatic transfer switches, connecting wires to circuit breakers, activation, start-up and explaining the operation of the system to the customer.Follow sketches to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
  • Work cohesively with the customer, dispatch and supervisors on all services to deliver an exceptional customer first experience.
  • Follow established expectations for communicating with dispatch throughout the day regarding updates and next assignments.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Maintain company vehicle and associated inventory in the vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
  • Minimum education requirement of High School diploma or general education degree (GED) equivalent
  • 2-3 years of generator installation, service and maintenance experience. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Self-starter with the ability to work as a team,as well as,independently in the field while giving guidance and instruction to the apprentice
  • Perform manual labor in an outdoor environment in various conditions. Physical requirements of the position to include, but not limited to: standing, lifting and carrying a min of 50lbs, crawling, climbing ladders, kneeling, bending, etc.)
  • After-hours and weekend service calls required, on an as-needed basis
  • Must possess a working knowledge of local codes and general industry standards
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver’s license and clean driving record

SOLAR ELECTRICIAN AND HELPER

M.W. Butler Electrical is a growing electrical contractor in Mechanicsville looking for an experienced electrician and helper/apprentice with an expertise in wiring solar systems.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Duties may include, but not limited to the following:

  • Assemble solar modules, panels, or support structures, as specified.
  • Install active solar systems, including solar collectors, concentrators, pumps, or fans.
  • Apply weather sealing to array, building, or support mechanisms. Install photovoltaic (PV) systems in accordance with codes and standards using drawings, schematics, and instructions.
  • Perform routine photovoltaic (PV) system maintenance on modules, arrays, batteries, power conditioning equipment, safety systems, structural systems, weather sealing, or balance of systems equipment.
  • Activate photovoltaic (PV) systems to verify system functionality and conformity to performance expectations.
  • Check electrical installation for proper wiring, polarity, grounding, or integrity of terminations.
  • Determine appropriate sizes, ratings, and locations for all system overcurrent devices, disconnect devices, grounding equipment, and surge suppression equipment.
  • Determine connection interfaces for additional subpanels or for connecting photovoltaic (PV) systems with utility services or other power generation sources.
  • Determine photovoltaic (PV) system designs or configurations based on factors such as customer needs, expectations, and site conditions.
  • Diagram layouts and locations for photovoltaic (PV) arrays and equipment, including existing building or site features.
  • Examine designs to determine current requirements for all parts of the photovoltaic (PV) system electrical circuit.
  • Identify and resolve any deficiencies in photovoltaic (PV) system installation or materials.
  • Identify electrical, environmental, and safety hazards associated with photovoltaic (PV) installations.
  • Identify installation locations with proper orientation, area, solar access, or structural integrity for photovoltaic (PV) arrays.
  • Identify methods for laying out, orienting, and mounting modules or arrays to ensure efficient installation, electrical configuration, or system maintenance.
  • Install module array interconnect wiring, implementing measures to disable arrays during installation.
  • Install required labels on solar system components and hardware.
  • Measure and analyze system performance and operating parameters to assess operating condition of systems or equipment.
  • Program, adjust, or configure inverters and controls for desired set points and operating modes.
  • Select mechanical designs, installation equipment, or installation plans that conform to environmental, architectural, structural, site, and code requirements.
  • Test operating voltages to ensure operation within acceptable limits for power conditioning equipment, such as inverters and controllers.
  • Visually inspect and test photovoltaic (PV) modules or systems.
  • Compile or maintain records of system operation, performance, and maintenance.
  • Demonstrate system functionality and performance, including start-up, shut-down, normal operation, and emergency or bypass operations.
  • Determine materials, equipment, and installation sequences necessary to maximize installation efficiency.
QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:
  • Be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks
  • Must be willing and able to climb ladders, stairs, work on rooftops and able to work on your feet for long periods of time
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds of weight frequently throughout assigned workday
  • Ability to work in extreme environments (example: hot sun, cold, rain, crawl spaces, roof, etc.)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment
  • Must have a valid state driver's license and provide a clean MVR
